As I mentioned over in [livejournal.com profile] danicia's journal I'm thinking of hosting a "I wish I was at Evecon" gaming party/mini-con January 8-9th. Anyone interested? Would you like to be in on the planning?

Past gaming events I've hosted have been strictly card games and board games, but it would be cool to expand that to RPGs if there is interest. I know both [livejournal.com profile] danicia and [livejournal.com profile] wylddelirium would jump at any excuse to run a LARP as well - would they have any players?

New: The event now has a webpage at http://www.fantasymaps.com/gaming/brunswick.html

I think that sounds like a pretty good idea, actually... I'd be up for card games and such... But with all the other "planning events" stuff I've been doing lately, I think I'd have to steer clear of the planning... Been up to my ears in stuff like that lately...

I'm interested in the mini-con. I could probably bring some food, and run some games (not necessarily all SJG). I've put it in my calendar, but do not yet consider this a hard commitment. Would there be more planning involved than games scheduling? Would this be a party at your place, or bigger, or it depends on the responses?

I'm not a frequent LARPer, but some scenarios (alternate history? not sure) might interest me.

Definitely!

That fits in perfectly between by New Year's plans and Sundance! You can count me in. Also I'll happily run things and you know I'll happily come down early and help with setup/breakdown and feeding the masses. MUA!

This is a splendid idea!

Interested, sure

...but you're no longer walking distance. And I can't offer to host it here...I don't think we'll have gotten rid of enough boxes. Yes, we suck that much. :)

Yeah, but I don't know that I want to impose on you that much. I'd have to stay over, because you're not exactly walking distance.

I was thinking of doing something similiar actually, just hadn't decided yet. I'd be interested kind of depends on the where though.

Well if you want I can ask at my community center. I am a member of my local HOA board and might be able to get the rental free/cheap if I get reelected next Wed.

Well I'm in Gaithersburg, never looked but know there are hotels around, and the mall is only like 4-5 miles away too for cheap food (plus a McD's, Wendy's, pizza Burger King etc really close). As for parking for the Center, well there is a lot, not huge though. But on the street parking and plenty of parking at the shopping center across the street. Let me talk to them next week, see what they say about it.

Not for nothing, but I've stayed in several Gaithersburg hotels (don't ask, longish story) and would be willing to make recommendations.

Worth mentioning that with Priceline, I didn't pay more than $40 a night at any of these places, either.

I went ahead and emailed people for prices to see if they know. I'll let people know if I get a response.

It looks like it will be too expensive, I'm gonna see what else they say, but the initial cost is 50/hr and for a con where it's probably gonna run 30+ hrs, that's nuts.

1. Of course I'm down for attending; and I'm good for more than just LARPs (although I have some smaller-scale LARPs for such a setting - Trapped! is for four players, and All The President's Zombies is for 9. However, I'm also a trained monkey for Hexgames, who publish the Quick-Ass Gaming System (QAGS); I'm one of the few GMs who's been taught how to run Groovin' Zed and the Roller Kings which is a supplement that's not out yet.

Secretly, also, I can provide and demo card and board games by Interactivites Ink, like Hamlet, You Need Drew's Truck, and Igor. Because I'm multitalented like that.

2. If you get a big response and need function space, I have a friend I can put you in touch with who is a wizard at hotel negotiations - usually can get a hotel to give up free function space if you fill a certain number of rooms with guests.

3. If you need any other kinds of help (organizing, scheduling, etc) I've been on four concoms and sort of know how it goes. I'm also quite easy to find and get in touch with.

4. I have a friend back in NY who has a giant collection of German board games who keeps threatening to come visit. Mayhaps I will direct his threat to that weekend, eh?
