Ok, clearly I've stepped into an alternate universe.

Immigration minister claims he has too much power - he's also concerned about the lack of transparency and accountability for his own decisions.

We had a PM vote himself out of office, too.

Australia's an interesting place. Here, the truth is always stranger, not only than the fictions, but than the parodies and satires as well.

That's a breath of fresh air in the day (and country) where the norm is for our politicians to subvert the checks and balances built into the system to prevent an imbalance in power.

Yeah. The last two or three ministers had more and more discretionary powers handed to them under the old government due to TERROR and it was getting quite out of hand. I think it was the manner in which Kevin Andrews (the previous minister) handled the Haneef case that was the last straw.

There's a lot that's different about the new gov't.

Actually, if Hillary gets the nomination and wins, I can fully expect Bush Jr to do EXACTLY THAT in his lame-duck month in office, just to keep all that wonderful power he asserted out of her hands.

Now, if he did, I wouldn't want to stop him, but still...
