So, as previously mentioned, we have primary elections. I'll be voting in the Frederick county Democratic primary. My thoughts on the contested races therein follow.
Governor
Heather Mizeur - is way too awesome to ever actually become our governor. Go check out her campaign site and/or her Wikipedia page. Vote for her.
Anthony Brown - is the establishment candidate and who I expect to win, I don't have anything against him, but don't expect him to do anything other than toe the party line.
Doug Gansler - is a complete asshole, don't vote for him.
Attorney General - I think any of these candidates would be fine, all are certainly an improvement over Mr. Asshole who left the position to run for gov.
Aisha Braveboy - who I'm going for, basically choosing a young black women over yet another of the old boys network.
Brian Frosh - would be my 2nd choice and the one to go for if you want experience over youth.
Jon Cardin - is the establishment candidate, probably fine, but would have to overcome my innate distrust of party insiders.
Frederick County Council at-large (2)
Not a lot to go on, going with Jessee and Twigg by process of elimination.
Susan Jessee - ok
Dave Twigg - ok
Linda Norris- loses my vote due to a chamber of commerce background, the chamber and I rarely agree.
Steve Bruns - too much of a left-wing looney even for me.
Frederick County Council district 1
Both look ok and would probably be fine, going with Maranto on the basis of the stronger pro-environment position.
Richard Maranto
Jerry Donald
Judge (non-partison race, independants can vote in this one)
Danny O'Connor - is the incumbant and seems to be doing an ok job.
Scott Rolle - someone who thought Roscoe Bartlett wasn't conservative enough now wants to be a judge? Aww hell no.
Democratic Central Committee (6)
8 candidates for 6 spots, I'm voting against the two that have zero on-line presence. The others all seemed fine.
Kristopher Fair - ok
Thomas Gill - ok
Mark Jafari - ok
Bob Kresslein - ok
Derek Shackelford - ok
Tony Soltero - ok
Michael Sowell - zip
Davonte Duckett - zip
Board of Education (4) (non-partison race, independants can vote in this one)
I'm going with the teacher approved candidates here, the "apple" ballott. The others all seem to have varying degrees of tea partyish leanings. Roughly in order of preference:
Liz Barrett - apple
Millicent Hall - apple
Kenneth Kerr - apple
Richard Vallaster - apple
April Miller - incumbant, no strong opinion
Jonathan Carolthers - no
Mike Ferrell - no
Colleen Cusimano - no, incumbant
Brad Young - no, incumbant, brother to Blaine "Leading crook of Frederick" Young
