As usual had much fun at Euroquest last weekend.
Games played: Alhambra, Bruxelles 1893, Canterbury (x2), Incan Gold (x2), Keltis (x2), Kingdom Builder, Lewis & Clark (x2), Oh Sushi!, Quirkle, St. Petersburg, Thurn & Taxis, Ticket to Ride: 1910 and Switzerland, Vegas Showdown
Bruxelles 1893 - a Euro game with a lot going on, theme is the Art Nouveau scene and you're an architect trying to gain influence by making and selling art, finding patrons, and designing buildings. There are auctions and worker placement and resource management and even a touch of area control; lots of choices, multiple paths to victory, all fitting fairly nicely with the theme. I liked it, but not a must have.
Canterbury - a tile placement/area control game with a city building theme. Have a basic choice between collecting money or buying tiles each turn and tiles have to be placed in a certain order, placement gives you influence towards controlling the various districts. Nice, but felt a little dry.
Lewis & Clark - my favorite of the new ones, but then I'm a sucker for exploration themes. This is a resource management/race game. You have to put your expedition together and then move along the trail in an attempt to get to the Pacific first. Cards have multiple uses, either using their special abilities or to power other cards. You also have native guides that can be used to power cards or take a variety of worker placement like actions, mostly collecting resources. Resources are needed to move you along, but if you're too full you move backwards so you need to balance when to use them. All in all a neat game, only quibble is that it is longish, running about 2 hours.
Oh Sushi! - a quick drafting/set collection card game. Very cute, sort of like 7 Wonders with all the resource management taken out.
