Another great TCEP this past weekend. Games played: Alhambra, Dixit, Dominion, Galaxy Trucker, Guillotine, Keltis, Kingdom Builder, Meteor, Nefarious, Rise of Augustus, Roll Through the Ages, Seven Sisters, Ticket to Ride, Union Pacific, Wizard's Brew.

Mini-reviews of the new ones:

Meteor - a real-time cooperative card game about saving the Earth from the impending meteors, it's nifty and quick, taking less than 30 minutes making it a nice filler game. We weren't very good at it though, sadly the Earth was destroyed multiple times.

Nefarious - another quick and easy card game, where we're mad scientists trying to invent stuff, it was fun, but not a lot strategy there.

Rise of Augustus - affectionately called Roman bingo, players are working on projects which require a certain set of resources to be completed, resources are pulled from a bag and available to everyone. Completing a project gives points and special abilities and certain combination of projects give bonus points. Very simple, but has some strategic depth in choosing which projects to pursue. Going on the wishlist.

Seven Sisters - an area control game in which the "areas" are the seven deadly sins. Had a neat mechanic where winning control of an area grants you points and resources or special abilities, but your influence goes away, setting up whoever was second to win control in the next round. Had a similar feel to Louis XIV, but I think it may be a bit more intuitive, and the endgame was definitely more tense. Only downside I think is the theme feels a bit of a mismatch with the mechanics, I know it just came out, but would love to see this re-themed.

Wizard's Brew - an auction/set collection game I got via Kickstarter, players bid on spell cards which give elements and special powers and then players use the elements to bid on ingredients which they need to win - the meat of the game is in the special powers though some of which are quite powerful, especially in combination, so there's a lot of keep away to prevent your opponents from getting an unbeatable combo. There is a bit of a learning curve, as I think for the game to really work players need to know what's in the spell card deck, we had poor first game where someone won on the first turn.
