And we're back. Did I miss anything? Anyway, continuing adventures are under the cut.
Day 7
Today we had out to Michigan. The rains have continued, messing up plans to do anything outdoorsy. So instead we do more wineries, shocking I know. I will say that Michigan was much more effective at taking my tourist dollars than Wisconsin. Exit for Coloma I'm looking at you; placing a winery, cidery, and 2 chocolatiers all in a row and open on a rainy Monday, what was I supposed to do? Yelp continues to serve us well, finding a tasty BBQ place in the ruins of Benton Harbor. We make it to Muskegon in time for dinner and our hosts are lovely, and we get to try out the sexy video games that Sam's friend is designing (coming this fall to iOS).
Day 8
Rain has finally stopped! We go over to Grand Rapids for a brief drive-by of my first home (we moved when I was 3 though, I don't remember living there). Then we meet up with one of my Dad's best friends for lunch. They became friends when we lived in Grand Rapids and met up almost every year for games either in Chicago or Grand Rapids up until my father got sick and those trips were a big part of sucking me into the gaming hobby. I think I last saw him and his wife in 2003 or 04, they didn't make it to the funeral due to their own health issues. Anyway, it was very good to see them. After lunch we stopped at their place for a quick game (Quandary, a gem of a game, since re-released as Loco and Botswana, but the Quandary version has much nicer components). After that it's more driving as we make our return to Tiffin, Ohio. After dinner it's more games as my grandmother takes back her role as Shanghai champion.
Day 9
Just the drive home, tried a new route to avoid Pennsylvania, I don't think it saved any time, but it was prettier. Managed to stay ahead of the rain till we got to Maryland. Dinner in Hagerstown and finally home again and collapsing.
