It's also interesting to me to note that chaplains (not Faith Leaders or whatever) are the only ones who have true confidentiality in the military. Even doctors aren't permited patient-doctor privilege/confidentiality. If a servicemember needs counseling, s/he -has- to go to a chaplain if it needs to be confidential. Which could be less than desirable if the only available chaplains were not of your faith and prone to be judgmental.
yet another reason why I won't join the military despite my father's wishes and my father and brother are mormons and don't have to worry about having problems there. I really can't stand how hypocritical and discriminatory this government and military really is
Thanks for the link! Having been a Pagan in the military, this issue definitely hits home. Although, I will have to admit, I really felt pretty free to be very open about my faith while I was in. The bigger problem is with the VA, which is technically not a part of DoD. Stupid VA...
