A quick note to let people know I'm still alive.
Katsucon was ok. Didn't see anything especially exciting and the hotel sucked - I'm glad they're moving next year. I did get to see
squire_liz and hang out with
byronczimmer and
principia_coh who I don't see nearly enough - and finallly played Munchkin Bites which was fun.
This weekend:
Friday I'm playing in a Changeling LARP - I haven't played in a LARP in eons, so should be interesting. (DCinShadow for anyone that's interested). Saturday I might go over to a friends poker night if sleep doesn't claim me first.
Saddened by HST's passing, don't really have anything to add to the many things others have written. The world is a lesser place without him.
Been spending more time with
zammis which is a good thing. She's awesome, and sexy, and now has extra lube. Go
zammis!

Date: 23 Feb 2005 23:04 (UTC)Too bad you couldn't make it; meeting more of Karl's buddies is always fun. Well, K12 should find the hotel situation much improved.
If you're referring to the one year in Bal'mer:
Congoers did not trash the hotel. There was minor vandalism, and there were significant doubts as to whether congoers in fact had anything to do with much of it.
I was later told by a Katsu staffer who was onboard at the time that the hotel contacted Katsu a few months later to apologize for vastly overreacting: apparently the experience of having a hotel full of drunk Shriners taught them the actual definitions of "trashed" and "irresponsible convention management."
I'm given to understand that they actually tried to get Katsu to come back, but attendees had found the hotel a) too far away, b) too unfriendly (Gee, who knew? They only spent the entire weekend looking down their noses at everyone), and c) too expensive ($169 a night, which I don't have any great issues with, but most people would rather see $50 of that a day go towards the dealer's room).

Date: 23 Feb 2005 23:29 (UTC)Whether this is true or not, I have no idea. Honestly, I can't imagine why anyone would care that a convention held six months away from theirs took place in the same city. I'm just saying it's something I've heard… and not from Katsu staff.
My impression of the hotel space was that they in fact did have ample room for the 'con, but that they organized their space very poorly.
awww shucks!!
