His dislike for DS9 bordered on the pathological (he'd slip digs into B5 scripts). The funny thing was, I thought DS9 became a great show because B5 was there to keep it honest. Combining a more shades of grey Trek with a B5-style story arc (which I doubt they would have done w/o B5 showing that it could be done) made it my personal favorite then and now.
Hopefully Firefly, Farscape, and (possibly) BS Galactica will show that an edgier, people driven SF series can be successful, if given some time to mature.
