Geographic trivia
31 October 2004 12:47So at work we make lots of maps of the U.S. by county. The other day I was downloading some Census data and noticed there were 5 counties listed for Hawaii. Hmmmm, our maps only have 4 counties in Hawaii. I pull out the trusty Rand McNally road atlas, yep, they only show 4 counties in Hawaii as well. What is this mystery 5th county? I turn to Google and find it, the smallest county in the U.S. at only 13 square miles - Kalawao. Some links:
