I don't know if you read comics or not, but both Robin Laws and Mark Ricketts have written story arcs for "Iron Man" in the past year or so. I liked Laws' work, but Ricketts wasn't all that impressive.

I had no idea game development was a good way to break into comics. :) As to the topic Laws is discussing, I agree. Whether it's Origins or the Small Press Expo, it's all about how much you can pimp yourself and your product. If you show enthusiasm and love for your work, people will be receptive to it.

And even more so if, as the article recommends, you can describe, with love and enthusiasm, the appeal of a particular game in 30 seconds or less. I agree with the article, game vendors should send out bullet points along with the games for volunteers to sell at booths.
