Deep in the Southern Blue Ridge Mountains of Virgina there is a little town called Floyd. Floyd is really a sort of a hippy commune that is mearly masquerading as a town. It ought to have a motto like "Preparing for the End of Civilization since 1993" or something. The folks there are friendly and welcoming, but highly suspicious of any commercial products not made by someone they know personally. For one weekend the town literally shuts down because everyone is at Floydfest.
zammis and I spent this last weekend at Floydfest and had a wonderful time. This music was incredible - check out the list of performers. Highlights included Dar Williams, Enter the Haggis, Tempest, Cyro Baptista (who my Discordian friends would really like), TruSound, and the Vulgar Bulgars. There were also lots of cool merchants and yummy food.
The rain managed to miss us, much of the day the festival grounds were covered in a thick fog which I thought was really cool, though I think Sam would've preferred some sun.
So anyway, we think if we go again next year we should try to get some more people to come with us. Especially people that I know enjoy camping in the mountains and watching bald-headed, kilt-wearing fiddle players.
