Wassail:
The act of drinking a toast to the Cider God in the orchard, accompanied by letting off shotguns and consuming much liquor. Wassail cups and bowls are much prized. Some villages like Drayton and Carhampton still have intact wassail songs. Most celebrate this on Twelfth Night, 6th Jan but others still choose the old New Year, 17th January.
Damn, I've been doing it wrong all these years. I need some shotguns.
