William F. Buckley on George W. Bush: "If you had a European prime minister who experienced what we've experienced, it would be expected that he would retire or resign." from here.
Yikes. A leading conservative figure is a Bush detractor. I'm a Bush detractor. By the transitive property (http://www.mathwords.com/t/transitive_property.htm), does that make me a conservative? ;)
I keed, I keed. But seriously, I disagree with that linked story's assertion that Buckley is the "father of modern conservatism". "Modern" conservatism in the vein of Buckley and Goldwater isn't "modern" any more -- "Neo" conservatism is the face of the right-wing now.
Hey, do neo-conservatives go around saying "I know Kung Fu" with a dumb California surfer accent? Again, I keed, I keed! ;)
I hate to be petty, but I sincerely hope that said distancing effort fails miserably. Neoconservatism has been such a vile and abusive political movement that I want anyone who has ever been allied with Bush to be permanently tarnished.
