I could write something incredibly insightful on the current debate on immigration or I could just point to [livejournal.com profile] tombeaux's post here and say "what he said."

Yeah, well here's my two cents.

The jobs "Americans don't want to do" were always done by Americans. We just want to get paid what we're worth for the shitty labor.

I have a (legal) Colombian friend who couldn't get health care for her diabetic son, but illegals can come here have their babies for free, get their other medical bills paid and go back across the border. If my friend just said (in Spanish) her name was Maria Hildago and she didn't have a social security number all her troubles would have been takn care of.

America needs to either enforce their laws (with walls and weapons) or just go ahead and make the American Union so all North and South America can use the same currency, work in the other Union countries and increase the scope of the Free Trade Agreement.

Wow. Just... wow. An awful lot of stereotyping but not a lot of substance in that "two cents".

The plural of anecdote is NOT data.

[Further response withheld, because I try to avoid arguing in other people's LJs, but feel free to come debate with me in mine.]

What stereotyping? Did Americans do the jobs before? Of course they did!

Are there a lot of illegals getting free healthcare in the US? Of course there are!

You are correct that the plural of anecdote isn't data. Data is the plural of datum. Data is factual information. I have supplied factual information.

If you feel like arguing then feel free. You can't hurt my little duck feelings.

Thank you, sir -- good to know I'm not the only one who thinks this way.
