Mine was cheat/edit mode.

esp. in civ II.

I loved being able to tweak settings that would let me happily build things & race towards the wonders.

Yes. In fact in looks like this one allows more customization than any of the previous civs.

Look, you! I've been trying *very* hard to ignore that it's been released already. (um, yes... Civ III is currently running in another window, why? :-)

My goal is to make it until 12/10 before I let myself "remember" it's out there...giving me one week after my class is over to get things *almost* straight first.
