Some follow-up links, as usual from [livejournal.com profile] andrewducker:
What the protesters are protesting - with charts - essentially the lack of jobs and low wages of the jobs that do exist. Doesn't really go too much into the how we got that way though, for that what's wrong with the economy and how to fix it. Also a very nice personal essay about class, sparked a lot of thoughts for me, if I find time I'll write some of my own experiences of class differences.

I rarely post about work, but we've done some stuff recently that is worth bragging about. One is an actual publication, the Resources Conservation Act Appraisal - that's a huge PDF, so I recommend downloading it rather than reading in your browser - basically a status report on the condition of natural resources in this country. Related we made a website for browsing the data used in that report - had the added difficulty of not using any server-side technology, came out decent enough I think. We also released a more technical paper about agricultural pollution and conservation practices in the Chesapeake Bay region that a few of you might be interested in.
