He's been a sick for awhile. He's also been a staple of the sci-fi convention circuit. Of the original Star Trek cast is probably the one that embraced fandom the most.
Yeah, now that you mention it I think I was at least aware of this. I'm a step or two removed from true Star Trek fandom, anyway, and since it's through my friends that I keep up on these things, I'm a bit rubbish at being a geek, really.
