That's pretty sad considering it's AOL's own picture site - I guess having it work with their own browser would've been too much to ask. Anyway does seem to work fine with IE and even if the slideshow doesn't work you should be able to click through them.
unfortunately, for whatever reason (and it's equally possible that it's yet another failing of the EFFING Citrix network I'm on), I can only see thumbnails of the slideshow - I click on each one, and it gives me a blank slide. It's cool - I'll check when I get home and it should work just fine.
i love it!! i have a question about the avebury stones though. like the one where sam wanted to hug the rock. are they partially in the ground and partially above ground? or were they put there? are there theories as to where they come from or why there's just a big-ass rock jutting up in the middle of a field? or is that just waht the terrain's like?
curious. :)
thanks for taking pics of the White Hart. that's just AWESOME!!
Avebury was constructed back in neolithic times, similar to Stonehenge. I find it easiest to appreciate with an aerial view - found some aerial pictures here. Like Stonehenge there are many theories about who built it and why. Some more sites: Earth Mysteries includes a drawing of what the site might have looked like when 1st built. "Avebury's first stones were being assembled from about 2800 BCE, and all the stone circles, stone avenues and earthworks went up during the ensuing 5 centuries."
they worked on that thing and added to it for 5 centuries. no one nowadays has close to that kind of patience! absoutely amazing. it's a complete mystery to any of us now what it could have been used for. of course, we say "it must have been a temple!" but we will never really know for sure. mmm. i love that sort of thing. frustrating and mind-boggling and impressive all at the same time.
thanks both of you for sharing all the pics and the links. i'm living vicariously through you right now. :)
that's too cool. our dream is to get to those places ourselves someday. scotland and england of course being at THE TOP of our list with ireland close behind.
i think though, if i had a month to do each country it wouldn't be enough time to see everything i want to see.
nope it wouldn't SO you have to keep going back to see more. :) I still haven't gotten to the British Museum, or seen more than a sliver of the Victoria and Albert.
This trip was nice to do with my dad though. Seeing he and Karl spar was fairly entertaining.
